Celebrations come in all shapes and sizes, and honestly, that’s part of what we love about this job. Making sure people walk away from an event feeling like it was properly marked, with food that fills bellies and lifts spirits is kind of the whole point of what we do at Hog Roast Barnsley. So when Harron Homes got in touch after three of their site managers picked up prestigious NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Awards, we were straight on board to help them celebrate the achievement the way it deserved.
Rather than dragging everyone off-site for the day, the client kept things simple and celebrated right where the work happens at Nevison’s Fold, giving 40 staff members a well-deserved break from a morning of hard graft. Out came our hog roast, and it went down about as well as you’d expect. Plenty of guests went for the classic combination of tender pulled pork stacked into soft rolls with stuffing, applesauce and a bit of crackling thrown on top for good measure. Others took a different route entirely, opting for grilled vegetable kebabs or our BBQ-pulled jackfruit, which we’d soaked in a smoky-sweet hickory sauce that, we’re not exaggerating, had a few committed meat-eaters sneaking a taste out of curiosity.
Hog Roast Barnsley didn’t stop there either. A fresh seasonal green leaf salad and a properly creamy coleslaw rounded out the spread, both built from ingredients we’d sourced locally rather than anything pulled off a big wholesaler’s list, because that kind of difference always shows once it hits the plate. And given how warm the day turned out, and how long some of the team had already been on-site working, the cooler stacked with ice-cold soft drinks got just as much love as the food did. Sometimes the simplest things make the biggest difference.
Honestly, we had a brilliant time being part of this one. There’s something genuinely nice about celebrating hard work with people who clearly take pride in what they do and getting to be a small part of that felt like a privilege rather than just another job on the calendar.
